Atheists

I meant to blog about this a few weeks ago when I first saw it. It was on a sign outside a church in Gordon...

'God doesn't believe in atheists. Therefore they don't exist.'

Comments anyone...?

I have thoughts, but want to know what other people think first.

well, in basis i think religious people are crazy.

im ok not to exist to a god that doesnt exist, because at least i can see me. and i make a hell of alot more difference in my life than something that doesnt exist.

i've read that before... actually maybe it was slightly different. but i can't remember what the other one was... blahmucpfthmeklapluf... thought i should be rambling seeing as i'm apparently cra... actually no i take that back. i don't consider myself 'religious'. but this could end up being a really long comment if i go on and my mind isn't really in the frame of mind for thinking... something to do with tiredness and overly sad because of people leaving the country...

Yeahhh. Ok. So pretend this is a completely unbiased third party type comment. ... Isn't God meant to accept everyone and love everyone no matter what they do/think/beleive, therefore wouldnt that mean that he doesn't believe in the concept of atheism, as opposed to not believing in atheists as people...?

no, not really, thats what christians would like people to believe, but if you read the bible it isnt really like that at all,

and you know, anyone religous.. i mean no offence, you can think what you want and i have no desire to change your mind and im sure your a lovely person, but you wouldnt call that statement nice to non believers either, so therefore i feel i am justified in stating my opinion.

This kind of stuff is purile. Atheism exists. God doesn't, or at least, there is no clear evidence for him/her/it. It's that simple. So, either god doesn't give a fuck about us and doesn't want us to know about it, or it doesn't exist. Alternatively, you can believe in an angry god who sacrificed himself to himself in order to placate himself for a crime that he was responsible for committing. That's Christianity.

Well im glad you think "this kind of stuff is puerile", but some people may not agree. It is not of childish characteristics at all. (Maybe some people want to understand things like this and have a wider perspective on 'religious' issues...?)

Maybe God does care about us, and thats why he doesn't want us to believe in something which he finds offensive. Something which he doesn't beleive in (or believes to be invalid).

On the other hand, yes, maybe he doesn't exist. Maybe he is just a big myth/legend. But like you said, there is no clear evidence either way. So until there is, how can you be so harshly judgmental?

And in response to Lexie, I agree that this statement can be offensive to both believers and non-believers. Which is why I found it so blog-worthy.

i think the quote wasn't really meant to be taken so seriously, but just as something to think about, and put a spin on the athiest view that because they don't believe God, he doesn't exist. just because you may not believe he is there doesn't mean he isn't. or something like that.

@emma
to tell you the truth, i didn't find the statement offensive, i found it kinda amusing. makes you think.

and i'm sure God believes that there are people who don't believe he exists. because there are... obviously. i think it makes him intensely sad though. seeing as they ignore the existence of their creator. but then that's just my point of view.

well... according to the law of physics... both "GOD" and "atheism" possess no matter consequently doesnt exist!!

and as for the comment, humans wrote that, not God! give god a break willl ya!

well, i don't believe in god, but "according to the laws of physics", he could exist, because things exist that do not consist of matter, but just energy, e.g. emr - so i disagree with what you are saying. If there was a god, then he could assume a form that as humans we cannot detect which is fair enough if we are assuming that he created earth and us.
